What is Marinera?
Marinera is an elegant dance that shows a love interest between a man and a woman. The man tries to impress the beautiful girl by showing off his moves: steps such as “El Zapateo”, and “El Cepillado”. The woman on the other hand, flirts with the man with her facial expressions and hip movements: she is very elegant and arrogant and seems to have no interest in the man. The man tries to astound the girl even more .
This dance is an agile, energetic dance that is always done in two parts with two different songs. It is usually seen in Peruvian festivals, but also for special occasions such as “El Señor de Los Milagros”- We honor Jesus Christ with this dance as an offering to Him.
